Taftsville Covered Bridge

The barn-red covered bridge a few miles east of town, built in 1836 by a local named Solomon Emmons III using an unusual truss of his own devising that copied no patent at all. At nearly 190 feet it's one of the oldest and longest covered bridges in Vermont — the oldest in Windsor County. Tropical Storm Irene tore out its abutment in 2011, and it reopened after two years of repairs.
