The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music (1965), directed by Robert Wise, is the film adaptation of the 1959 Rodgers & Hammerstein stage musical — itself based on Maria von Trapp's 1949 memoir, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. It won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and turned the family into a global legend. The film took real liberties with the true story: the children were renamed, the timeline was compressed, and much of it doesn't line up with the actual family.
